Flower Remedies for Puppies

Puppies can benefit from flower remedies in many ways. Flower remedies are most commonly used for fears, traumas and emergencies. However, another important role of remedies is to help young puppies at this delicate, formative time of their lives, to help shape their personalities so they will grow up to be psychologically strong, confident, well rounded adults. Lessons learned and mental pathways developed at this early age will set the dog up for life, so it’s crucial to guide the process sensibly and carefully.

Bringing home a new puppy for the first time can be a bewildering and frightening experience. He has just been removed from his mother and litter mates and is now alone in a strange and unfamiliar environment full of unknown sounds, sights, smells and creatures. While some puppies may settle in without difficulty, others may experience emotional turmoil. Be sure your puppy gets plenty of rest and that he has a safe and secure area to call his own. Inquisitive and excitable children should leave him alone until he gets settled in and comfortable. Small children can often exhaust and overwhelm a new puppy by wanting to play with him all the time, so parents should keep a close watch.

Socialization is of utmost importance in the upcoming weeks. He needs to be gently introduced to a wide variety of experiences early on, in order to help him cope with his environment as he grows up. It is crucial to socialize your new puppy to adults and children, as well as other dogs and pets.

It is important to encourage him right from the start by teaching potty training, good manners, not to jump on or mouth humans, and to begin to understand certain signals and commands. This is a period of intense learning for your puppy, and the process needs to be shaped properly in order for him to grow up into a happy, well rounded adult.

Flower remedies can be administered several different ways. You can apply them topically to the bottom of their paws or place on top of the head. They can be given orally by placing in their food or drinking water. You can place them in a mister and spray on bedding and in crates.

Initially, they should be given three to four times daily. Once you notice the behavior lessening, you can reduce the application accordingly.

There are several remedies that can help your new puppy to become confident and feel secure.

  • Mimulus and Larch:These are important in helping to form a secure and confident personality in your puppy from the start. There is no harm in giving drops to the puppy even if he isn’t necessarily showing signs of anxiety. Reducing even the smallest feelings of nervousness will help at this stage to prevent future temperament problems.
  • Cerato:Along with Larch, this remedy can help the puppy form a strong, confident outlook. Together with sensible training, not allowing the puppy to become emotionally dependent on you, this remedy helps to foster a well balanced and healthy independent spirit.
  • Walnut:Sudden changes, such as being removed from everything he’s known to find himself in an alien environment, can be unsettling. Walnut helps to strengthen the puppy’s emotional resistance and allow him to adapt comfortably and confidently. Walnut also helps in socialization, to help a young dog deal with all the new sights, sounds and places.
  • Elm:This is an important remedy to help reduce sensory overload that the pup may experience when coming into his new home for the first time, and then later on with the socialization process.
  • Chestnut Bud:Helps a developing mind to form positive associations and learn important lessons for life. The remedy fosters a young dogs intelligence, often appearing to sharpen cognitive skills and encourage quick, logical thinking. An important early learning remedy.
